MIT received 12,443 applications for admission
to the Class of 2011.
1,533 applicants, or 12.3 percent, were accepted. MIT expects a yield of
66.5 percent, which would allow for 10 of the 500-600
waitlisted students to be
admitted.
48 percent of the admits were women. 24 percent are
minorities. 49
percent are valedictorians, and 90 percent are ranked in the
top five percent of their class. Early Action Admit Rate Falls to 11
Percent
MIT received 3,493 early action applications, signifying a 13
percent increase from last year. 390 students, or 11 percent, were
admitted, compared to 12 percent last year. 319 were denied
admission, while three-quarters, or 2,784, were deferred.
