Early Decision
Brown received 1,920 early applications, compared to 1,871
by the same date last year.
Applications to the Program in Liberal Medical Education
are up 20 percent this year. Brown has received 250
applications to date as part of the early decision pool,
compared with 207 from last year.
Legacy applications rose from 6 to 8 percent, and
applications from public school students increased by 1
percent.
While there was a 2 percent rise in applications from New
York, the number of applicants from the South dropped by two
percent.
Regular Decision
Brown accepted 15.8 percent of applicants for Class of
2008. Acceptance letters were mailed to 1,874 of the 13,387
regular decision applicants. 538 students were admitted in
December under Early Decision.
There were 750 students on the waitlist, which will be
reviewed in May.
Of the admitted students, 51 percent are female and 49
percent male. Students from all 50 states have been admitted,
although New York and California are the most common home
states, with 326 and 317 students admitted, respectively.
The pool of admitted students is more racially diverse than
the current student population, with 9 percent African
American, 15 percent Asian American, 9 percent Latino, 2
percent Native American, 7 percent foreign citizens and 46
percent Caucasian. In total, 35 percent of admitted students
are people of color, as compared to the 29 percent of the
current student population comprised of students of color.
Public school students make up 54 percent of those
accepted, with 34 percent from private schools, 7 percent from
parochial schools and 3 percent unknown. |
