Brown received a
total of 19,044 applications for admission to the Class of
2011. This number represents an increase of 3.8 percent from
last year. 2,577
applicants, or 13.5 percent, were admitted.
41 percent of the
admits are minorities.
11 percent of the admits are international
students. 95
percent of the admits were in the top 10 percent of their high
school class. 20
percent of the admits were valedictorians or
salutatorians.
Early Decision Admit Rate at 22.7
Percent
Brown received 2,307 early decision applications this year,
representing a 3 percent decline compared to the 2,378 early
applications received last year. 523 students, or 22.7 percent,
were admitted, similar to the previous year. 293 students, or 12.7
percent, were rejected. 1,491 students, or 64.6 percent, were
deferred.
About 120 recruited athletes were admitted, representing
approximately a quarter of those accepted early decision.
Once again, female applicants heavily outnumbered male applicants
at Brown. Male applicants totaled only 41 percent of the early
pool.
